This small durian with wildly curving sage-colored thorns looks remarkable and has an even more remarkable taste. The almost fiberless flesh melts in your mouth with a creamy blueberry-syrup-on-pancakes flavor. There is very little sulfurous durian taste, and due to its melting qualities you need to be careful not to over-thaw this one – it will turn to durian soup. Since each lobe of this teeny fruit contains only one or two plump pods, every packet contains several whole durians that were wild-crafted from enormous old heritage trees in the hills around the orang asli villages. Unfortunately, we’re not aware of anyone re-planting them, but maybe that will change if we give these special durians some TLC!
