  • Durio oxleyanus 300g

This small durian with wildly curving sage-colored thorns looks remarkable and has an even more remarkable taste. The almost fiberless flesh melts in your mouth with a creamy blueberry-syrup-on-pancakes flavor. There is very little sulfurous durian taste, and due to its melting qualities you need to be careful not to over-thaw this one – it will turn to durian soup. Since each lobe of this teeny fruit contains only one or two plump pods, every packet contains several whole durians that were wild-crafted from enormous old heritage trees in the hills around the orang asli villages. Unfortunately, we're not aware of anyone re-planting them, but maybe that will change if we give these special durians some TLC!

  • Durian Hutan Hybrid (Durio Lowianus x zibethinus) 400g

This semi-wild species of durian grows on the mountain above the  orang asli village. It's a hybrid of Durio lowianus and Durio zibethinus – a bit fleshier than the full wild durian, but still full of the funky flavor that you only get in wild fruits.  It has a very sweet banana flavor with a cashew nuttiness and an earthy metallic tang that is both meaty and bitter at the same time. This one is for the adventurous! It tastes somewhat different from regular durian.

  • Limbang Red Otak Udang Galah Durian (Durio graveolens) 400g

This gorgeous red-hued durian has a strong cherry-alcohol aroma, a mild sweetness and a dense smooth texture like cream cheese. It's one of the most expensive and coveted durian in Borneo. The name refers to its mottled mixture of red, orange, and yellow coloration.

  • D11 Durian 400g

D11 is so basic vanilla – which is not an insult. This mild, dense butter-cookie-dough of a durian has pleased generations with its nostalgic simplicity. Lacking bitterness or an alcoholic bite, it is sweet, earthy, creamy, and what you might just be craving on a rainy day.

  • D14 Durian 400g

D14's semi-dry, Big-bird yellow flesh has the texture of a frosting sandwich – bready and squishy at the same time. It's a heavy, rich-feeling durian dominated by nutty flavors and an eggy-custard. It's not bitter or alcoholic, but a solid, medium-sweet, complexly-flavored durian that is one of our personal favorites. Hope you enjoy!

  • Kapri 400g

Uniquely fruity with flavors akin to banana, Kapri has a pillowy, marshmallowy milky creaminess and a rum-like alcoholic intensity. This older variety is often overlooked because of it's white color, but it has a cult-following of fans in Penang.

  • Kun Poh 400g

With its beautiful yellow-orange coloring, Kun Poh lets your eyes feast first before your tastebuds get a hold of the unusual concentrated fruitiness of raisins and cappucino coffee. It's a delicious blend in a very soft, almost sloppy durian. This variety was discovered in 1950's on the farm of Mr. Liew Kun Poh. Check out our YouTube Virtual Farm Tour  to meet the great-grandsons of Mr. Kun Poh.

  • Lipan (Centipede) 400g

Lipan is a classic. It's one of the oldest durian varieties in Penang, remaining popular throughout the generations with its thick-textured cream cheese, vanilla earthiness and teeny tiny seeds, which gives it more to eat than meets the eye. This one advertises itself the moment you open the bag with a puff of classic durian aroma. If you loved D11, or you love durians in Indonesia, put this one on your bucket list (or in your cart!)

  • Lipan Red (Red Centipede) 400g

Although it bears the name Lipan, this durian with orangey-yellow coloration is of no relationship to regular Lipan. They're not even cousins. And tastewise– Lipan Red boasts a sweet fruitiness with berry tones that you'll never find in the other Lipan. If you like sweeter, lighter durians like Black Thorn or Kun Poh, give Lipan Red a try this season!

  • Black Thorn (Negeri Sembilan) 400g

Terroir makes a difference – and this Black Thorn grown in the misty jungle hills of Negeri Sembilan has a more earthy punch than the floral and sweet Black Thorn from the ocean-facing farms of Penang. Grown on Haw Kee Orchard, a myOrganik certified farm, this Black Thorn shares the ultra smooth, thick, luxurious texture and deep colors for which this variety is renown, but has more tendency to bruise to almost blackish with a more intense chocolatey, robusta coffee bitterness that we think many of you will absolutely adore. Compare Black Thorn from two terroirs side-by-side for a pro-level tasting experience!

  • Cat's Kampung 400g

Milky, sticky & mildly sweet like a cream cheese frosting with just a teeny hint of alcoholic bitter, Cat's Kampung is an old durian tree on her small 3-acre farmstay. These durians came from just 1 tree, as there is only 1 tree producing these fruits in existence. As the durian didn't have a name other than "kampung" we called it "Cat's Kampung." It's nummy 😋

The "honey jackfruit" of Malaysia, this one has a uniquely firm but pliable texture that packs a sugary punch. Petai Beans or  Sataw สะตอ have a black-pepper, garlicky, umami flavor and are popular throughout SE Asia.  Try them stir fried with red curry or spicy sambal, in a coconut milk curry, or grilled in their shells. These bigger-sized beans are sometimes called "Paddy Petai" because they are larger in size.

  • Frozen Coconut Water 16oz

Just thaw and drink! (BYO straw 🤭).
This is 100% coconut water from Malaysian "biasa" or village coconuts. It's not as sweet as Thai coconuts, but totally refreshing. No preservatives, nothing from concentrate and no weird discoloration (coconut water does not turn pink when frozen or thawed).

  • Tempoyak & Sambal Bundle (Vegan)

By popular request from our durian tour groups – now you can taste tempoyak and sambal at home! Tempoyak is lightly fermented durian which has a sweet cheesy and umami creaminess. It is delicious eaten together with sambal, a mildly spicy, aromatic chili paste made for us by Titi Eco Farm. We love to add these as condiments to wraps, as a flavorful dip for cucumbers or lettuce, or eaten on top of rice or other savory foods.

    Ingredients
    Tempoyak: Durian & Salt
Sambal: Tomato, coconut oil, red chili, ginger, lemongrass, bird-eye chili, salt, brown sugar

  • Nutmeg Syrup (Vegan) 400ml

The best palette cleanser is a glass of Nutmeg Juice – its sweet, herbal flavor wildly reminiscent of Coca-Cola (the original recipe for Coke actually contains nutmeg!)  You'll find this syrup blended into drinks everywhere in Penang Island – from old-school kopitiams to snazzy matcha cafes, and on the durian farms themselves since most families have nutmeg trees. The syrup is made from the Nutmeg fruit – not the seed – which is boiled with rock sugar and stored in glass bottles. To serve, mix the syrup with plain cold water or carbonated water for your own Kampung Coke!

  • Cempejack Butter

This thick fruit-pulp spread is made with just 2 ingredients! We cooked down the Cempejack pulp until it formed a creamy, spreadable texture similar to a pumpkin or apple butter, then lightly sweetened it with local Tualang honey from a wild jungle bee species called Apis dorsata. This honey has a different flavor than the honey from domesticated bees. Together the Cempejack butter has an aromatic caramelly-jackfruity-lemony flavor and is delicious on top of pancakes, toast, an ice cream sandwich, or a spoon!

  • Durian Cake 200g (Melaka Sugar) × 2

We used a Malaysian specialty sugar called "Gula Melaka" or Malacca Sugar for this delicious durian cake. This sugar starts as the liquid sap of the Nipa Palm, an estuary plant, and then gets boiled down to an earthy, rich, slightly salty caramel brown syrup. Stirred into durian pulp in a stainless steel wok over fire until it has the thick bouncy texture of fudge, the Gula Melaka adds extra dark complexity to the concentrated durian flavor. Selecting this option will get you 2 durian cakes to enjoy.

    *Re-used Styrofoam Box*

Although we use compostable foam insulation for our smaller shipments, our bigger bulk boxes are shipped in conventional styrofoam boxes that we re-use (nothing purchased new for shipping to you!). To dispose of the styrofoam, we suggest gifting the box to a small food company in your region – your local farmers market should be able to help you find a recipient who will be appreciative.

    *Compostable Trays*

The trays are made out of Bagasse, the sugar-cane fibers that are thrown away while making sugar. They are biodegradable and compostable, so don’t feel about bad tossing them in your garbage bin or the garden.

    *Dry Ice*

We ship every box with dry ice and gel ice to make sure it gets to you as frozen as possible. In the summers, the dry ice may have burned off before it reaches you, but in the winters be careful as there will likely still be dry ice inside the box.

    *Quality Promise*

Didn’t like something about your durian? We often credit or replace any packets that don’t live up to our quality promise. Make sure to tell us about any problems (and include pictures!!!) Send us an email at [email protected] and we will get you squared away.

    2. Tracy – January 21, 2025

The most reliable source for hard-to-find Malaysian durians! The boxes always arrive well-packaged and most of the products are still frozen. I order 50+ packets each time and every single one had been fresh a delicious.

    3. Monika – December 10, 2024

I am a complete newby to durian, having heard about it for decades but never having tried it. After watching many videos of people extatically devouring it on YouTube, I went to my nearest Asia market and bought a frozen tray. It was a very good first experience and brought me to explore tropical fruit sites to see what durian they offered. I happened onto an YouTube video of a man who reviewed weird fruit from all over the world who had received a box of various frozen durian from Year of the Durian. I learned about their devotion to support durian farmers who grow the best durian using traditional methods of harvesting. I really was attracted to their passion, and ordered the Build Your Own Box of 9 different varieties. My box came as scheduled (2 days ground) and I was delighted that the free coconut water was still frozen, the packages of durian were still frozen, and I could within seconds pop everything tidily into my freezer, leaving out one for the next day’s sharing with my best friend.
It was the Kapri, and we were amazed. A few days later we tried the Black Thorn, which so far is my number one, a few days after that came Dream Lover. Both were indescribably amazing! I’m not sure what I will try next – maybe I will just close my eyes and reach in the freezer and leave it to fate. Needless to say, after enjoying the high quality durian from Year of the Durian, it would be almost tawdry to go back to the durian I originally bought at the Asia store, as nice as it was then.
I would rather save my money towards the best now that I know Year of the Durian. I will not be going to all the places they go, and experience this awesome fruit in all its varieties – but thanks to them I don’t have to.
One more thing, which is hard to put into words; There is a distinct feeling – a vibe – an aura – maybe it’s the love they have for durian, maybe it’s the joy they have meeting and supporting the farmers, maybe something else – but there is a feeling of care, trust, community, heart filled intentionality, – I guess HEART is the best word. I feel a vibe of HEART surrounding my durian box.
      Very rare. Thank you! 🙏🏽❤️🪷🦢
