Madayaw. Welcome to Davao!
The craggy mountains valleys of Davao, hung with mist and so verdantly green the color remains imprinted on your eyelids whenever you blink.
Here is one of the most ethnically diverse places you’ll ever visit; the home of 11 indigenous tribes, the remnants of an Islamic empire settled in the 16th century by Spanish colonizers, and heavily influenced by 19th century American businessmen.
It’s a place that has struggled with communist guerilla warfare and has only recently found peace through the politically controversial policies of the Duterte family.
It’s a place dominated by small fruit farmers trying to find their own way amidst the stretches of commercial plantations owned by Dole and Del Monte, and where Chinese durian investors have recently arrived and are changing the landscape again.
And it’s here; in this unique geography between the sparkling Gulf of Davao and the peaks of Mt. Tipolog , Mt. Talomo, Mt. Apo that you will find durian that’s flavor belongs totally and fully to the people of the Philippines.
We are pleased to introduce these abundantly fleshy, sloppy, creamy, mouth-filling Philippine durian varieties to durian lovers of the USA 🇺🇸 & Canada 🇨🇦

Cut-Harvest Vs. Tree-Ripe Durians
Yes, the flavor of durian can be crafted and guided by the way that it is harvested and handled.
Durian that is cut-harvested will have both a different texture and flavor compared with when it is tree-ripe.
To share with you this educational tasting experience, we have chosen to include *both* cut-harvest and tree-ripe Puyat.
This way you can see how the flavor of 1 variety can change completely depending on human intervention.
Because not all of you like tree-ripe Puyat. It’s too strong, too stinky, too spicy, just…. too much.
But some of you do really like cut-harvested Puyat, which is thicker in texture, more sticky, sweeter, and more like a custardy pastry.
So try them both, and tell us which one you like best! And be surprised – it’s almost like tasting a totally different fruit!
Durian really is infinite in flavor!
About the Extras
This is a Durian-Tour-In-A-Box; intended to bring you a mini at-home experience of our Davao Durian Tour.
Our tours are totally Durian Centric, but we find so many other cool fruits along the way that we felt this Davao Durian Box would not be complete without the essentials: Marang and Chocolate.
Tableya is a traditional 100% chocolate drink that we love to indulge in every morning on tour and often on the farms too during snack breaks. The Tableya in your box was grown directly under the Duyaya trees on the Belviz Farm and is intended as a cozy palette-cleanser between durian rounds.
And no trip to Philippines would be complete without Marang, the ultra-soft, slippery, powdered-sugar vanilla and gasoline cousin of Jackfruit, or the gummy, finger-staining, grapefruit-like lanzones!
The extra packet of marang and lanzones is included at random, so you don’t know which one you’re gonna get!
But if you would like to order just these fruits or add extra packets to stuff your Philippines Durian Box full of fruit goodies, please contact [email protected]
About Durian From Davao, Philippines
Davao has a lot of durian. During the season, it’s abundant. It’s everywhere.
But farmers have struggled to capitalize on the potential of their durians due to the ruggedness of the terrain and the generally bad infrastructure.
Many of the farmers we worked with on this project did not have access to cell reception or internet data at home; making coordinating durian drop-offs and pick-ups particularly difficult.
Much of the durian in the Philippines is sold at low prices, or discarded as unsellable.
We are happy to be participating in the revolution of the durian industry happening in Davao. With the help of Larry Miculob, who started exporting durian in 2015, we were pleased to facilitate the first export of durian from the Philippines to the United States in 2019, and this 2021 the first export to Australia.
We believe in the future potential of Philippines durians to compete with the Durian giants like Musang King and Monthong, and in the community cooperatives of the Philippines to create an export model that is sustainable for the environment, for small farmers, and for biodiversity.
And we hope after this box, when you know your favorite Filipino durian varieties, you’ll be a believer too.
Thanks for participating!.

*No Styrofoam Packaging*
To get these durians to you still cold, we need sturdy insulation.
We are currently using Temperpack’s curb-side recyclable insulation made out of 90% recycled paper and corn starch.
We are sorry about using non-bio-degradable packaging, and a little bit annoyed with ourselves, so we will keep searching for better solutions.
