I’m not gonna say a whole lot about D-18, but not because it was less than excellent. This one was as fantastic as it looks. And damn, does it look good. So good I think these pictures can do the talking.
I must’ve taken 30 photos before I even had a bite. The wrinkles reminded me right away of the rippled and swirling texture of the land near Kilaueau Volcano. So, while officially this is a great D-18 specimen, it will live in my memory with the honorary title, Lava Flow.
Look at that durian nectar almost flowing out – so invitingly delicious.
The flavor was sweet, but not too sweet. Just the perfect sweet Goldilocks would approve of. It is only slightly bitter even at this age, having just enough bitterness to balance out the sweetness. Overall this was a lovely durian. Easy for any durian fan to like. Super creamy and smooth and oh so gorgeous. I can’t wait for next season already.

I ate this one at Bao Sheng Durian Farm in Penang, Malaysia. Pulau Penang is probably the best spot to look for it. I'm sure other farms in Penang around Balik Pulau are growing D-18 too.
Outside of Penang, you may be able to find some at vendors in Kuala Lumpur, Raub, Johor Baru, or even in Singapore.
